Restorative dentistry is the study of diseases of the teeth, gums and underlying structures. The aim is to restore complete function in these areas which will improve the patient’s wellbeing.
This specialism includes the following branches of dentistry:
- Periodontics
- Prosthodontics
- Endodontics
Typical procedures include dental implants to replace missing teeth; fillings as treatment for tooth decay; root canal treatment; and treatment for gum disease, e.g. gum rebuilding.
The goal is that of restoring functional requirements to the teeth but aesthetics also plays a part. Restorative dentistry understands the importance of attractive looking teeth and employs a range of cosmetic dentistry procedures to do so.
These include tooth whitening, lumineers/veneers, white fillings, inlays and onlays and composite bonding.
